We had a Window. This is what we saw...

It was mid-morning on Thursday, September 11, 2008, that the City got the news from Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas that Galveston, TX was to be evacuated. This was no "recommendation". This was a mandatory evacuation.

What could we do?

Some of us had gotten spooked and panicky back in August about Hurricane Eduard. We'd had our fill of evacuating, so we decided to stay and "hunker down". After all, how bad could it be? Would it ever get to this tiny spot in the Gulf of Mexico -- one in hundreds of other landfall locations? What were the odds? For all we knew, it could take a jog and land somewhere else.

But NNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooo! It had to land -- wind, storm surge, and all -- right here.

Here are photos of what we saw as we witnessed one of Nature's Furies from a set of windows -- downtown loft windows, car windows, and the occasional "Look! I'm out in the open with this silly camera!" pictures.
